MI Wins National Award
For Enviromental Acheivement

Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services (MIHCS) was recently honored with a “Partner for Change – with Distinction Award” from Practice Greenhealth, a national membership organization for health care facilities committed to environmentally responsible operations. The award is one of the organization’s seven Environmental Excellence Awards given each year to honor outstanding environmental achievements in the health care sector.

The Partner for Change - with Distinction Award recognizes healthcare facilities that have achieved improvements in their mercury elimination, waste reduction, and pollution prevention programs. This includes at least 15% recycling, a more extensive sustainability program, and a show of leadership in the local community and/or in the health care sector.

Specifically, over the past year, MIHCS has embarked on several environmental initiatives that include an organizational commitment to:

Recycling all bottles and cans
Becoming mercury free
Recycling of all confidential and normal paper and all cardboard
Installation of a co-gen generator
Installation of all new energy efficient lights and ballasts
Recycling of all toner and cartridges
Recycling of all florescent bulbs
Replacement of PVC pipes with steel
Replacement of most housekeeping chemicals to green
Start of composting in kitchen
Styrofoam free facility
