Flood Information

On May 16, 2006 a flood devastated our Nursing/Restorative Center forcing evacuation of residents and a four month closure. Joyfully, we welcomed our first residents back “home” on September 18, 2006. A chronicle of our experience is still posted on our flood information page. Click here to see a short video detailing this remarkable story.

Mary Immaculate has long enjoyed a reputation in the Merrimack Valley as a quality provider of healthcare and housing services to older adults.

Located in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Mary Immaculate is a faith-based organization whose roots are firmly planted in the communities which comprise the greater Lawrence area.

As a community-based provider, Mary Immaculate strives to offer services that truly respond to the needs of elders in our service area. We are committed to enriching the lives of our residents and participants, to collaborating with other leaders in our community and to being an employer of choice for those who work in healthcare.

People who have lived in the Lawrence area their entire lives know that they can continue to enjoy familiar surroundings, secure in the knowledge that Mary Immaculate has been a respected community leader for 139 years.

We know elder healthcare. If you or someone you love needs long term care services in the Merrimack Valley you have come to the right place.

The mission of Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services is to respond with compassionate care and dignity to the health, social and spiritual needs of well, sick and frail elders.

We rely on Mary Immaculate’s core values of compassion, competence and collaboration to guide us in fulfilling our mission and ensuring the provision of quality care to those we serve.

We welcome people of all faiths, races and cultures.

Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services was established by the Sisters of Charity of Montreal, "Grey Nuns" in 1868. At the request of a local priest, five Grey Nuns came to Lawrence to operate a home for orphans and "sick young girls of the mills".

Over the years, Mary Immaculate’s services have evolved to meet the needs of an ever-changing Lawrence. By the 1950’s Mary Immaculate had come to serve an increasing number of elders, many of whom had worked in the mills but now needed health support in their later years. This began a new focus that would lead to the development of one of New England’s largest and most advanced healthcare campuses for the care of elders.

What distinguishes Mary Immaculate today is its continuum of care designed to meet the broad life-support needs of elders. Today, our expanded mission includes nursing center care, independent and supportive housing, adult day health, assisted living and chair car transportation services.

Our roots are honored and our Catholic tradition continued through our membership in Covenant Health Systems, a Catholic multi-institutional healthcare and eldercare organization serving New England.

First and foremost though,Mary Immaculate remains a part of the fabric of the Greater Lawrence community. And the spirit of the Grey Nuns continues to live on our campus.
